A shared reference for the wood fibre world
WoodComp is building an open, structured picture of the world's wood fibre consumers: the facilities that turn wood fibre into products. The aim is a single, trustworthy reference that anyone can consult and build on.
The dataset covers pulp mills, biorefineries and sawmills today, with pellet plants and other wood-consuming industries to follow as it grows.
Too much of this information is scattered, paywalled or out of date. We gather it, verify it against primary sources, and publish it under an open licence so researchers, companies, journalists and public bodies can all work from the same facts.
Who publishes this
This dataset and the knowledge bank around it are published by woodcomp.world AB, a company registered in Sweden, which is responsible for what appears on this site. The data is compiled from primary sources and published under CC BY-SA 4.0, so it can be quoted, redistributed and checked against the sources we cite.
For citation wording, corrections, or questions about how a figure was arrived at, write to us through the contact page. Corrections to the data are welcome and are acted on.
How we classify facilities
WoodComp maps wood fibre consumers: the facilities that take in roundwood or wood chips. The published dataset covers pulp mills and wood-consuming biorefineries, and grows to sawmills, pellet plants and wood-fired energy plants; paper-only, tissue and converting sites are out of scope because they consume pulp or recovered paper rather than wood. Each facility carries a status, a location precision flag (only site-verified facilities appear as map pins), and a capacity stored as a value, a unit and what it measures.
Coordinates are never estimated by a model, every material fact links to a source, and high-impact changes go through an independent second review. The dataset is published under CC BY-SA 4.0. The full method, wood-consumption factors and citation live on the methodology page.
