Sub-national data: regions, wood flows and fibre baskets
Every facility with a verified location carries a sub-national region on its page: the NUTS 2 region in Europe, the state or province elsewhere. The region is also a filter in the facility list, so "all sawmills in Västsverige" or "pulp mills in British Columbia" is one selection. That label layer is free, like everything shown on the site.
What sits under the label is not published: regional wood supply and demand, flows between regions, and fibre baskets, meaning what a facility or a group of facilities can realistically draw from the forest around it, at what competition. That analysis is prepared per region, on request, as paid work.
What a sub-national analysis contains
Built from the same verified facility register as the site, combined with national forest statistics broken down to the region:
- the facilities in and around a region, with capacity, fibre and status from the register;
- estimated wood consumption per facility, as intervals, never points;
- regional supply: standing volume, increment and felling where the national inventory publishes them at this level;
- the balance between them, and which facilities compete for the same wood.
We only build this on what can be sourced. Where a country does not publish regional forest statistics, we say so instead of estimating around it.
How to ask
Use the request form in the facility list, or the one below, and name the country or regions you care about. Requests are read by a person and answered by email; nothing is delivered automatically and no delivery is promised before we have agreed on scope. Requests also steer what gets built: when several ask about the same country, that country's fibre baskets move up the queue.
